The best things happen in life when you least expect them. In that moment of surprise you’re open to anything, because nothing has been decided.  The music on this CD is the perfect example of this. It was a cold and windy winter night in Boston, and it was my birthday. My wife blindfolded me, drove me to a secret destination, and when the blindfold was taken off, I found myself in Peter Kontrimas’ recording studio. In the booth next to me was my good friend Marty Ballou, and for the next couple of hours Marty and I celebrated life by improvising music together.  Those improvisations became this CD.  We hope you’ll enjoy sharing the delight, joy, and surprise of this special birthday session.
